The only Montenegrin beach on the Guardian list for 2022 - and one of the most hidden
The Guardian compiled a list of the 40 best beaches for 2022 - one of them is in Montenegro. No, not Sveti Stefan.
Montenegro's Budva Riviera is one of the country's biggest honeypots, and it can be hard to escape the crowds. But at Drobni Pijesak, a little further south, there are emerald waters surrounded by forested mountains, sunloungers for hire, and the two beach restaurants offering big helpings of Montenegrin grilled dishes.
Hotel Riva (doubles from €77 B&B) in nearby Petrovac faces the town beach and is a short walk from the popular Lučice beach. It's worth upgrading to a sea-view room. There's also a path that goes from Petrovac to the beach at Perazica Do.
"Drobni pjesak" beach is the only Montenegrin beach that was on the Guardian's list, while Greece "dominates" with seven beaches: Fteri (Kefalonia), Elafonisi (Crete), Sarakiniko (Milos), Plaka (Naxos), Karavostasi (Epirus), Gulf of Vagia (Serifos, Cyclades) and Simos (Elafonisis). Three beaches were selected from Croatia, namely Krivica on Lošinj, Divna on Pelješac and Mlini on the Pakleni otokimi near Hvar, and one from Albania - Porto Palermo in Keper.
