Montenegro 4 Digital Nomads Conference
The goal of this conference, held two days ago in Podgorica, is to promote Montenegro as a desirable destination for digital nomads. The organizers are NEST Coworking and Montenegro Digital Nomads Collective, in cooperation with the Capital and the National Tourism Organization.
Two panels were organized within the conference, starting with a panel on regulations and measures to attract digital nomads.
Plumia is working to create a Nomad pass that will allow digital nomads to travel freely to over 10 countries in 2025, and the goal is for all countries in the world to recognize this document by 2030. The initiative aims to help developing countries attract digital nomads while open developed countries to digital nomads '' - began the story of the executive director of Plumia organization and director of special projects at SafetyWing company, Lauren Razavi.
The founder of the first community of digital nomads in Israel, Dean Kuchel, brings not only great experiences from the visit, but also plans for Montenegro.
"Montenegro is a great country for digital nomads. My goal is to bring digital nomads here, but in a way that the local population benefits from it. I want nomads who earn three thousand euros a month to contribute to the economy so that the inhabitants of countries like Montenegro get that income, "Kuchel said.
The director of the Center for Information System of the Capital, Džemal Lekić, said that the Capital is aware of all the advantages when it comes to attracting digital nomads.
"Podgorica, as the capital of Montenegro and an administrative, economic, cultural and academic center, also has something to offer for digital nomads. The diversity of its nature and cultural heritage is huge, so that digital nomads can use their time in the best way and combine work, leisure and pleasure, "Lekić added.
Visa for digital nomads coming soon
In addition to digital nomads and representatives of the Capital, one of the panelists was a digital transformation expert and former coordinator of the Digital Nomad Attraction Program, Tamara Juver.
"The visa for digital nomads is an important document that the previous government started working on, and now it is in the parliamentary procedure. I hope that we are talking about the days or weeks when it comes to the adoption of this document, which regulates a good basis for the arrival of digital nomads who will be able to stay in Montenegro for up to two years. It is now important that organizations like Montenegro Digital Nomads Collective and coworking spaces like NEST help promote the country with projects like this. "
Sense of belonging and connection with the local community
In the second panel, there was more talk about ideal destinations for digital nomads. The creator of The Professional Hobo blog, Nora Dunn, concluded that Montenegro has everything it needs.
"Digital nomads need a sense of belonging and connection with the local community. I really think that Montenegro has everything - natural beauties, hospitable people, good food. "Montenegro should use what it has and not copy Croatia, Portugal or any other country," Dunn added.
For most of them, this was not only their first visit to Montenegro, but to the Balkans in general. One of them is YouTuber Patrice Averilla, who says she did not know what to expect since she has never been to the Balkans.
"I was thrilled by the hospitality of the Montenegrins. What is important for me as someone who likes to spend a long time in one place is accessibility, and Montenegro is really affordable when it comes to the cost of living, "she said.
Internet speed is very important
More tips on how to better position Montenegro as a desirable location for digital nomads could be heard from Youtube Johnny FD.
"Infrastructure is very important. I have noticed that sometimes Internet speed is not at an enviable level, and that is necessary for us as digital nomads and content creators. Also, accommodation owners should be educated about the needs of nomads in order to provide a fully functional kitchen, good internet and access to practical information. In addition, Montenegro has all the prerequisites to be an ideal destination for digital nomads, "FD explained.
Matea Matan, Manager of Strategic Planning and Product Development at the National Tourism Organization, said that Montenegro sees the importance of digital nomads and that it will work on attracting this target group.
"The National Tourism Organization sees a big difference between digital nomads and classic tourists. They have different needs, and we will work to promote the country by listening to those needs. They represent a great opportunity for Montenegro and open some new markets that have been unavailable so far "- concluded Matan.
Montenegro 4 Digital Nomads is only the first part of a project on the topic of digital nomads, which will be jointly addressed by NEST Coworking and the NGO Montenegro Digital Nomads Collective.
"Working on this project has shown us the importance of digital nomads for any country, as well as the potential that Montenegro has to be a regular station for nomads, and the success of the project gave us the wind to continue to deal with such an important topic." - concluded the organizers.
