Explore the Tara Canyon

20220130-143429tqr

The Tara Canyon, 80 km long, is one of the deepest canyons in the world (1,300 m), right after Colorado, and is the deepest canyon in Europe. Steep, narrow, with sharp edges hundreds of meters deep, the canyon is rich in caves of various sizes and appearances, mysterious, deep and shallow, dark and bright. By its vividness and unrepeatable relief, by the attractiveness of the strong flow, with beeches and springs (about 15 larger ones), with numerous rapids, the Tara canyon is unique, unmatched in the world.

This is one of the few oases of untouched nature and is a reserve for many endemic species of plants and animals, which is why in 1977 it was inscribed in the UNESCO program "Man and the Biosphere" as an exceptional geomorphological and ecological entity. A special tourist attraction is rafting on the river Tara.

According to its specificity, expressive beauty, there is almost no part of the canyon that has not received its special name. Some names are based on the natural characteristics of this part of the canyon, some on the legends that have lived in this area since time immemorial, others, again, on the events and personalities who left a strong mark here, thus speaking of the eternally unbreakable connection between man and the river. always provoked, attracted, enchanted.

Tara got its water from the snow from the surrounding mountains, as well as from the numerous springs that abound in this canyon. Perhaps the most famous such source is Bajlovića sige, a whole network of waterfalls, which water from the Bučevica cave flows into Tara, 150 meters wide, with water falling in some places up to 30 meters. Here you can enjoy the play of water and its flow through the limestone sculptures that water itself has ruled for centuries.

Even the eternal city of Rome, with all its famous fountains, cannot surpass the magic you can experience here

Whoever visits the canyon of Tara once and finds himself on its shores, forever to her remains attached.
